It is locally known as mughlaga rog. It is a bacterial disease caused by Streptococci, bacilus bacteria. It is prevalent during summer crop. 30 to 100% crop loss during summer.
Causes:
- High temperature & RH
- Poor ventilation
- Poor sanitation
- Improper bed cleaning
- Feeding of wet leaves
- Accumulation of faeces
- Feeding of contaminated leaves
- Overcrowding of worms
Symptoms:
- Sluggish movement
- Loss of appetite
- Shrinkage of abdominal segment
- Swollen thorax
- Vomiting of fluid
- Loss of clasping power
- Body softened & rupture
- Blackening of Thorax
Control measures:
- Effective disinfection of rearing house/ appliances
- Avoid overcrowding
- Maintain optimum temperature & Relative humidity
- Avoid feeding diseased & contaminated leaf
- Collect diseased worms & destroy
- Apply Bleaching powder+lime at 1:9 ratio
- Proper bed cleaning
- Proper sanitation & Hygiene
